Women's Services Women are more susceptible to depression and other psychological symptomology than men. One in four women are likely to experience severe depression in their lifetime. The reason women are more susceptible has to do with “the experience of being a woman in our contemporary culture. ”(APA Task Force Report on Women). Women have grown up learning
to be more passive, helpless, and self blaming than men. Also, thirty-seven to
fifty percent of women have been victim to sexual or physical abuse by the age
of 21, often leaving untreated symptoms as an adult. In addition, traditional
roles of marriage and family often leave women feeling vulnerable and helpless,
but conversely, women with careers and family regularly feel overwhelmed by
“trying to do it all.” At Wilmes-Reitz Psychological, we are sensitive to the issues that affect women and we address the biological, social and psychological factors that lead to symptomology. We also have both male and female therapists so your patient can work with whom she feels most comfortable. Women’s Issues
